Just as some of the schools of the Hellenistic period -such as Stoicism or Hedonism- emerged as a reaction to the crisis being experienced, minimalism has also flourished as a product of an era in which oversaturation has reached overwhelming levels.
Minimalism is a lifestyle that promotes our own happiness and that of others by helping us to simplify and invest our energy in what really has focus and meaning for each person.
Just as minimalism seeks to maximize the level of well-being in a person’s life, utilitarianism as a philosophical current that emerged from Jeremy Bentham sought to achieve the same.
Is it possible to justify the minimalist lifestyle from the utilitarian point of view? It is a fact that as a practice it not only helps us to be happier, but with the fact of implementing it in our life it also generates happiness for other people, which is the principle of utility exposed in the utilitarian current.
