Why I Love Philosophy But Hate Philosophers.

Philosophy goes beyond what is said in a book, in a lecture, and even in the classroom.

We’ve all been in touch with philosophy at some point in our lives. In a class, a book that caught our attention, or even a movie that quoted an interesting phrase. Every day we see how it is becoming more popular and how many people talk about on podcasts or social networks. But this is very recent and far from what happens in academic environments, where it has mostly developed.

We know many myths about those who dedicate their lives to studying it, and there are many more about philosophy itself. Often people said it is extremely complex, repetitive, and rigid. Of the philosophers, who always live with their minds in the clouds and that what they earn is not enough to live on. The truth is despite all the prejudices that may revolve around it, philosophy is much more than profound phrases and complicated subjects. Philosophy consists of something as simple as the very essence of human beings: thinking.

I often meet people who tell me that they hate philosophy because they don’t understand it. But philosophy is not about understanding what Kant meant or didn’t…
